Portree Setters

Welcome to Portree!

Jeff and I acquired our first Gordon setter, Meghan, in 1984, by sheer happenstance. We read about the breed and they sounded perfect for us. We drove four hours to visit a breeder with a litter and were captivated by the beauty and sweet nature of Meg's mother. We made a decision on the spot to forget about the other breeds we had been considering and so began our adventure with this wonderful breed.

We added two more Gordons in 1989 and 1990 and began showing in AKC conformation. Breeding our first litter in 1993, we kept a lovely girl from that litter, Ch Crystal's Take It By Storm, CD. Storm was a great dog who was always ready for that next venture  She taught me patience and she brought me much joy.

In 2003, we decided to start over with a new foundation bitch, Triseter Ebonie Wisteria, from Triseter Kennels, located in Victoria, Australia. Wisty arrived in August and had a very exciting start to her show career here in the U.S. by going Winners Bitch and Best of Winners at the Gordon Setter Club of America's regional specialty in September. This was her first show and she won a five-point major at only six months of age!! Wisty quickly finished her AKC championship with three majors and was bred to CanAmNZ & Aust Ch Triseter Ebonie Nirvana, CGC, in the fall of 2005. We are very proud of the fact that three of her sons also became AKC Champions in 2009 and we thank Esther Joseph and Michael Looby for sending us this very special girl.

Located in northern New Jersey, we are occasional breeders of quality Gordon Setters.  Our goal is to produce Gordons that are true to breed type as well as being of sound body and mind.  We hope you will enjoy meeting our dogs on these pages and we thank you for your interest!.
